Japan declares state of emergency over COVID-19 pandemic

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has Tuesday declared a state of emergency in seven prefectures in Japan, including Tokyo and Osaka.
Prime Minister Abe had said Monday... that there will be no lockdown and that basic economic activities will continue with public transport and supermarkets open.
But he urged the public to engage in social distancing and avoid unnecessary trips.
Overnight, Japan saw a rise of 235 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, which brought the nation's total to over 4-thousand-8-hundred and a death toll of 108.
The state of emergency is expected to last about a month.
