Huge monitor lizard stuns passersby as it walks along pavement in Thailand

This is the astonishing moment a giant monitor lizard was seen walking along the pavement.

The creature - estimated to be around 6ft long and weigh 50kg (110lbs) - was walking down a hill in Nonthaburi, central Thailand, on March 17.

Dance teacher Pattarasaya Mala was travelling in a car with her friend when she noticed the enormous reptile.

Pattarasaya is heard in the video mentioning the huge size of the Asian Water Monitor Lizard.

She says: "Oh my god! I have never seen lizard as big as this before. Where are you going little boy? We are so scared of you. You are so big."

The lizard appeared to have climbed out of a nearby canal and ventured onto the pavement. After having its morning walk disturbed, the animal turned around and headed back towards the water.

Pattarasaya added: ''I've seen small lizards before but this was something different. It's very rare to see such a large monitor lizard in public. I hope it found the way back to the water safely.''
