Acclaimed racing bull gets stately funeral in south Indian village

Villagers in south India gave a regal funeral to a bull which had a storied career in the cattle-racing sport of "Jallikattu".

The funeral took place in Manapparai in Trichy district, Tamil Nadu on March 6, with the bull's body being dressed in ornamental gear and paraded through the town.

After all the funeral arrangements were made for the bull, the procession was taken away and buried in the same area, with many mourners in attendance.

The bull's owner, Kumar Raja, had raised the bull from only a calf through a prize-winning career as a Jallikattu racer, until its recent death from old age.

Raja commented: "I feel this loss as a personal one and no bull can replace it."
