From ‘Star’ to stardom: How Thai teen’s ‘far-fetched dream’ shone at Oscars
  • hace 4 años
Bangkok, Mar 4 (EFE/EPA).- As Wichayanee Pearklin watched a local singing competition on television as a teenager, the Oscars’ limelight always seemed a distant dream.

Wichayanee entered Thailand’s “The Star” in its fourth season and won the contest outright, becoming the first female artist to win the event and giving birth to her stage name “Gam the Star” or “Gam,” which means “Cheek” in Thai.

More accolades followed as she was cast for voice acting roles. Then last month, Gam, 31, was invited to perform on stage at the 92nd Academy Awards. (Camera: NARONG SANGNAK. Editor: NATTAKARN JEAMRUGEEKUL).
