500 homes evacuated due to Mann fire in Southern California

Five hundred homes — and some 1,500 people — were under evacuation orders on Tuesday (March 3) as the wind-driven Mann fire broke out along the Santa Ana River bottom in Norco in Southern California.

Footage shows a black smoke fume near Fifth Street in Riverside.

More than 200 firefighters fought the fast-moving blaze.

The Mann fire was reported at 9:51 a.m. and quickly grew from an estimated 10-to-15 acres to about 100 acres, where it was holding as of 2:25 p.m., fire officials said. No injuries or home losses were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Capt. Fernando Herrera said Tuesday afternoon the wind was slowing down a bit, and that was slowing the advance of the fire.
