England Floods: Storm Jorge hits UK, Residents Told to Evacuate Affected Areas.

The next storm to hit the UK has been named as Storm Jorge - and will whip Britain with 70mph winds and heavy rain.

Residents in riverside properties in Worcestershire and Shropshire have already been told to evacuate immediately after emergency defences at the Severn were breached. And in East Yorkshire last night, residents were being evacuated from the village of East Cowick after the River Aire broke its banks.

West Mercia Police warned on Wednesday that residents should expect 10 days of flooding as Storm Jorge hits the UK. The Met Office has insisted that it should be pronounced "hor-hay", as it was named by their Spanish counterparts.

"Another 10 days of difficult conditions" have been predicted for parts of the Midlands devastated by flooding.

There are fears Shropshire and Worcestershire, where evacuations have been taking place, will be further affected following heavy rain in Wales.

On Wednesday, barriers holding back the River Severn at Ironbridge buckled and water seeped underneath.

Storm Jorge, due to hit at the weekend, spells more disruption for the region.

Up to 70 properties in Snaith , East Yorkshire, were also flooded.
