A terrified housewife fought off a king cobra in her kitchen by firing mosquito spray in its eyes.

Kanlaya Sawangarrom, 53, was cooking dinner when she heard her utensils rattling behind her on Wednesday (February 19) afternoon.

The mother-of-three said she turned around and saw a 6ft long cobra slithering toward her in her kitchen in Phatthalung, southern Thailand

Kanlaya said she came face-to-face with the deadly reptile before spraying mosquito repellent at its head. The startled snake slithered away while she ran outside to call for help.

Rescue workers found the serpent coiled feebly under a cupboard, where it was still reeling from the mosquito repellent.

Footage shows how they easily hooked the snake with their catching rod before bringing dragging it outside and stuffing it into a sack.

The relieved housewife said she was in a panic when she saw the snake and grabbed the first item she could to fight it off.

She said: "It was a frightening moment for me to see a snake approaching so I grabbed the closest thing that I could use as a weapon and it was the mosquito repellent."

The rescue foundation volunteers said they believe the snake would recover from being doused with the spray so they released it back into the wild without taking it to see a vet.
