Thousands of Valentine's Day Text Messages Received 9 Months Late
  • 4 years ago
On November 6, 2019, thousands of Americans were surprised to receive Valentine's Day text messages sent last February in the middle of the night.
Whether it is a message sent by an old crush or a relative, these ghost texts have caused a reaction on social networks always fond of unusual stories. But then what is the explanation for this 9-month delay?
It all goes back to February 14, 2019 when a server of the third-party network provider, Syniverse, went down overnight. This glitch caused the freezing of 168,000 text messages.
In November, when the server is finally restarted, messages were automatically sent to their recipients, causing many network users to misunderstand.
This bug is characteristic of the American mobile network. It uses numerous intermediaries to ensure the sending of 18 billion texts daily in the United States and to cover areas with poor coverage.
