Barcelona head coach Quique Setien insisted that Lionel Messi's dispute with the club's sporting director Eric Abidal is common at every football club.

Messi has supposedly fallen out with his former team-mate after Abidal claimed that Ernesto Valverde's sacking came as a result of the players alleged lack of effort.

"Lots of players were not satisfied (with Valverde) and nor did they work a lot", Abidal told Catalan newspaper Sport on Tuesday.

That led to Messi taking to Instagram to defend his team-mates.

"I think that when players are talked about, names should be given because, if not, we are all being dirtied and it feeds comments that are made and are not true," Messi said in an Instagram post.

Abidal's future at the club is now rumoured to be under threat as Barcelona look to pin Messi down to a new deal.
