Lord Sun was born on Ratha Saptami by Kashyapa Rishi and Aditi, hence this day is also called the birth date of the Sun. रथ सप्तमी को कश्यप ऋषि और अदिति के संयोग से भगवान सूर्य का जन्म हुआ था इसलिए इस दिन को सूर्य की जन्मतिथि भी कहा जाता है. इस दिन पूजा और उपवास से आरोग्य तथा संतान की प्राप्ति होती है इसलिए इसको आरोग्य सप्तमी और पुत्र सप्तमी कहा जाता है. नि:संतान दंपत्ति संतान प्राप्ति के लिए रथ सप्तमी के दिन इस एक उपाय करो करने से माता पिता बन जाएंगे ।
