The Rajpath of Delhi has once again been decorated for Republic Day. Every year Rajpath is witness to the parade of 26 January. Republic Day was celebrated for the first time in the country on 26 January 1950. But, the parade was not held at Rajpath. The first Republic Day was celebrated at Irwin Stadium, now known as National Stadium. The country's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, hoisted the flag at the Irwin Stadium.

दिल्ली का राजपथ एकबार फिर सज चुका है। हर साल 26 जनवरी की परेड का गवाह राजपथ बना है। 26 जनवरी 1950 को देश में पहली बार गणतंत्र दिवस मनाया गया। लेकिन, परेड का आयोजन राजपथ पर नहीं हुआ था। जश्न की तैयारियां तो सात जनवरी से ही शुरू हो चुकी थीं। बता दें पहला गणतंत्र दिवस इर्विन स्टेडियम जिसे अब नेशनल स्टेडियम के नाम से जाना जाता है, वहां मनाया गया था। देश के पहले राष्ट्रपति डॉक्टर राजेंद्र प्रसाद ने इर्विन स्टेडियम में झंडा फहराया था।
