As one of the most popular small tunes, Ode to Autumn Wind depicts a husband missing his youthful wife. The earliest version of this song includes Ode to Autumn Wind by Li Bai and the Condor Hero, Louis Cha Leung-yung’s martial arts romance, which ends with this poignant, emotional poem.
Performer information: Jiaoyue Lyu: At the age of four, Ms. Lyu began her musical studies as a pianist. It was not until she entered Nanjing Normal University that she began her guqin studies with Prof. Xiaoqin Yao and Prof. Gongliang Cheng. She has performed guqin concerts in China, the United States (Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall) and abroad and while steeped in the traditional qin repertoire she has also composed music for and performed the guqin in modern musical theater productions. In New York, she attended New York University and actively promoted guqin performance and education. At the China Meets America Cultural Festival at Carnegie Hall (2014) she participated as teaching assistant, interpreter, backstage director and MC. Additionally, Ms. Lyu has been awarded numerous honors in China and globally for her expertise in Chinese calligraphy including the Gold Award in calligraphy in the National Man and Nature Award in July 2001.
