lyricist Javed Akhtar termed the controversy over the recitation of renowned Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz's noted poem Hum Dekhenge at the IIT-Kanpur campus as absurd and funny. Speaking on the controversy over poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s ‘Hum Dekhenge’ poem, which was recently recited by IIT students, after which panel was set up to find out if it is anti-Hindu or not, lyricist Javed Akhtar said that it’s both funny and absurd. He said, Calling Faiz Ahmed Faiz anti-Hindu is so absurd and funny that it’s difficult to seriously talk about it.

पाकिस्तान के मशहूर शायर फैज अहमद फैज की नज्म को लेकर भारत में विवाद खड़ा हो गया है। आईआईटी कानपुर ने उनकी नज्म 'लाजिम है कि हम भी देखेंगे' को लेकर जांच कमेटी गठित कर दी है। इस विवाद के बीच गीतकार जावेद अख्तर ने कहा कि इस नज्म का हिंदू-मुस्लिम से कोई ताल्लुक नहीं है। इसे पाकिस्तान की हुकूमत के खिलाफ लिखा गया था।
