Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in the middle of a re-election campaign when his bodyguards suddenly escorted him to shelter following a rocket launch from the Gaza Strip.

According to the Israeli military, a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip against the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, which lies 12km from the Palestinian enclave.

There has been no claim of responsibility from Gaza for the rocket which the Israeli Military claims to have been shot down by their Iron Dome air defence system.
