उत्तरी बिहार में बागमती नदी के किनारे बसा दरभंगा जो जिला एवं प्रमंडलीय मुख्यालय है। दरभंगा प्रमंडल के अंतर्गत तीन जिले दरभंगा, मधुबनी एवं समस्तीपुर आते है। दरभंगा के उत्तर में मधुबनी, दक्षिण में समस्तीपुर, पूर्व में सहरसा एवं पश्चिम में मुजफ्फरपुर जिला है। दरभंगा शहर के बहुविध एवं आधुनिक स्वरुप का विकास सोलहवीं सदी में मुगल व्यापारियों तथा ओईनवर शासकों दूारा विकसित किया गया।
Darbhanga, situated on the banks of the Bagmati River in North Bihar, is the district and divisional headquarters. Darbhanga division consists of three districts Darbhanga, Madhubani and Samastipur. Darbhanga has Madhubani district in the north, Samastipur in the south, Saharsa in the east and Muzaffarpur district in the west. Development of the multi-faceted and modern form of Darbhanga city was developed in the sixteenth century by the Mughal merchants and the rulers of Oinwar.
