President Xi Jinping has assured Hong Kong’s embattled Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor of his full support as he praised her “courage and commitment” in the face of anti-government protests.  During her December 16, 2019, duty visit to the capital Beijing, Lam also met Premier Li Keqiang who reminded her that she had yet to accomplish her most pressing task of ending the violence that has gripped the city for more than half a year.
