Elizabeth Warren Reveals
'Blue New Deal' for Our Oceans.
The 2020 candidate's latest plan
draws similarities to the
proposed 'Green New Deal.'.
Under the 'Blue Deal,' thousands of jobs would be created through investing in offshore wind farms.
In turn, the use of offshore drilling
would gradually cease.
Jobs would also be created from
improvements to U.S. fisheries.
Warren's plan offers oil rig workers a chance
to train for new jobs and receive retirement benefits.
The Massachusetts senator also calls
for these new gigs to be unionized.
She goes on to propose that public housing should not
be built in areas where there are rising sea levels.
In spots where flooding has forced people from
public homes, Warren wants to provide "recovery aid.".
The proposal also lists the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association (NOAA) to build a blue carbon program.
The program would gather materials such as kelp
to absorb carbon emissions in the atmosphere.
How much would all of this cost?.
According to Warren's campaign, it would take
$3 trillion to make the 'Blue New Deal' happen.
To get the funds, she has offered to
seal corporate tax holes and
halt fossil fuel subsidies
