Jimmy Kimmel Releases First
Children’s Book ‘The Serious Goose’.
On Dec. 3, Kimmel made
his authorial debut with the
self-written and self-illustrated
children’s book.
Kimmel said his inspiration came from the
playful “goose” nickname he has for
his five-year-old daughter, Jane.
When she was little, when she was in a
bad mood, I’d say, ‘Are you a serious goose
or a silly goose?’ … So I call her ‘Goose,’ and
I am just tickled by the idea that there would
be a serious goose if there was a silly one, Jimmy Kimmel, to ‘People’.
According to Kimmel, ‘The Serious Goose’ was
a chance to revisit his former dream career path
of illustration, a process he called “difficult.”.
It is what I wanted to do: be an artist of some
kind ... I just kept drawing over and over and
over again until I had it. The hard part was
the lettering, really. A goose can look any way
you want the goose to look, but the letter “O”
has to look like the letter “O.”, Jimmy Kimmel, to ‘Entertainment Weekly’.
In honor of his son, Billy, all the proceeds from the
book will go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and
other children's hospitals around the country.
I wanted to do something to make a big donation to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles ... And not just them, but also other children’s hospitals. This will be a hefty sum. I mean, it already is. And it seemed like the least I could do after they saved my son’s life two different times, Jimmy Kimmel, to 'People'
