The Citizenship Amendment Bill has been a controversial piece of legislation that the govt has been seeking to bring in. The Bill proposes to give shelter to religious minorities - mainly Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Christians, Buddhists and Jains - from countries neighbouring India. This Bill has been opposed on grounds that it differentiates among citizens on the basis of religion.
