Robert De Niro Defends
Anna Paquin's Role in 'The Irishman'.
The Oscar winning actress plays
Peggy Sheeran in the film, daughter
of Frank Sheeran, portrayed by De Niro.
Though her character is
central to the development
of the story, Paquin speaks
only seven lines in the film.
This has sparked controversy
online, with some saying that
the actress was underused.
As one of the executive producers
of 'The Irishman,' De Niro spoke to
the controversy in a recent interview.
She was very powerful and that's what it was. Maybe in other scenes there could've been some interaction between Frank and her possibly, but that's how it was done. She's terrific and it resonates, Robert De Niro, via CNN.
On Twitter, Paquin herself
addressed rumors that she was
somehow "ordered" to do the
film by director Martin Scorsese.
Nope, nobody was doing any “ordering”. I auditioned for the privilege of joining the incredible cast of @TheIrishmanFilm and I’m incredibly proud to get to be a part of this film, Anna Paquin, Twitter
