to Focus on Measles Crisis.
The closure was announced by
Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele
Malielegaoi on Monday.
During the closure, all
government workers are focused
on a "mass vaccination campaign." .
Let us work together to ... convince those that do not believe that vaccinations are the only answer to the epidemic. Let us not be distracted by the promise of alternative cures, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Samoan Prime Minister,
via NPR News.
To date, the Samoan measles crisis has
claimed 53 lives. 48 of the deaths have
been children under the age of four.
Since October, more than
3,700 cases of measles
have been reported.
An anti-vaccination effort took
root in Samoa following the deaths
of two infants treated with vaccines
that were not properly prepared.
According to the World Health Organization,
less than 31% of the country had been
immunized prior to the outbreak
