Sports Ban for Russia.
The recommendation from the
World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
follows an investigation in which Russian
database irregularities were discovered.
If approved, the ban would mean
that Russian athletes would be
barred from the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
It would be the second
straight summer Olympic
Games in which only cleared Russian
athletes would be allowed to compete.
In addition, Russian teams
would not be allowed to compete
in global events such as soccer's World Cup.
Russia would also not be
permitted to host a myriad
of international competitions. .
In 2015, it was discovered
that Russia had coordinated a
highly sophisticated doping scheme.
The scheme was directed
by Russia's head of anti-
doping. It was supported by
Russian intelligence services
