Pope Francis lands in Thailand at the start of a two-country Asian tour

This is the moment Pope Francis arrived in Thailand for his four day visit to the country.

His Holiness’s aircraft left Rome at 7pm local time before arriving into Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport at precisely noon 12:00 local time.

The Pontiff charters Alitalia aircraft for his world trips and his flight are given the number AZ4000 and nicknamed Shepherd One.

This time he had an an Airbus A330 and reclined in business class for the 11 hour overnight flight.

He touched down at the public airport - used for domestic and short haul flights in Asia - but went to the military base on the opposite side to the passenger terminals.

There His Holiness was greeted by catholic figures and politicians before leaving in an entourage of cars and heading to his hotel to begin his three night, four day trip, which finishes on Saturday when he will depart for Tokyo, Japan.
