Newsweek's Momentum Awards are designed to showcase the global leaders who have transformed the urban landscape—at the intersection of mobility, technology, and design—to create more environmentally sustainable, economically viable and socially equitable societies for us all. Carlo Ratti is one of the world's premier inventors, engineers, architects and urban designers, and he is the director of MIT's Senseable City Lab, a research initiative that studies how big data and new technologies impact the urban environment. He continuously uses marvels of modern science and technology to create out-of-the-box solutions for society's most pressing problems.
