South Korea, China, and Japan are upping their direct investment in ASEAN.
The Korea International Trade Association says South Korea poured six-point-one billion U.S. dollars into ASEAN last year, up 16-point-seven percent from the previous year.
But the amount is just a third of Japan's.
China, which is promoting its Belt and Road Initiative, is focusing most of its ASEAN investment in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Last year, the three countries accounted for almost a quarter of total direct investment into the rapidly-developing Southeast Asia region.
