Google Plans to Offer
Checking Accounts Next Year.
The Wall Street Journal reports that
the checking account will be released
through Google’s ‘Cache’ project.
‘Cache’ will be offered through the
Google Pay app in partnership with
Citigroup and a small Stanford
University credit union.
The company has been upfront about
its role in the accounts, with its
partnering banks taking the lead
with the financial backend.
Google has also claimed that
it will not be selling checking
account data to advertisers.
The plan follows competing tech giant
Apple’s foray into the financial sector
with the Apple Card and Facebook’s
cryptocurrency, Libra
