The retail price of onions has risen by 45 to 50 per cent in the last one week to Rs 100/kg in the national capital despite the central government's measures to boost supply and contain price rise. A decision in this regard was taken at the meeting of an inter-ministerial committee, headed by Consumer Affairs Secretary Avinash K Srivastava, which reviewed the prices and availability of onions in the country.

प्याज एक बार फिर लोगों के आंखों से आंसू निकालने को बेताब है। राजधानी दिल्ली-एनसीआर की मंडियों में आवक में कमी होने के कारण खुदरा बाजारों में प्याज की कीमत प्रति किलो 100 रुपये के पार पहुंच गई हैं. हालांकि, सरकार इस बार मुस्तैद दिख रही है. प्याज की बढ़ती कीमतों को काबू करने के लिए केंद्र सरकार फुल एक्शन में आ गई है. उपभोक्ता मामलों के मंत्री रामविलास पासवान का कहना है कि प्याज की क़ीमत कम करने के लिए सरकार तेजी से प्रयास कर रही है. प्याज की उपलब्धा बढ़ाने के लिए विदेशों से प्याज का आयात किया जाएगा.
