Vietnamese men complete challenge climbing on knives barefoot

This was the moment men in Vietnam took part in a climbing contest where they scaled a large wooden pole using only knives on October 20.

This is a festival held in October every year by ethnic minorities in the northern mountains of Vietnam.

The festival is called "Dai Phan Cau Mua" in Vietnamese or "Pray for a good season" in English.

During the festival, the most special ritual is the ritual to climb the knife tree. Two trees are about 4m high and have 12 knives on the trunk.

All blades attached to the tree trunk rotate the blade upwards. Two men will be chosen to join the festival.

They will have to climb the top of the knife tree barefoot.

It is believed that when men overcome challenges they will receive protection and good harvests.
