Autumn beauty peaks in the city of Jecheon
  • 4 years ago
It is almost the peak of autumn in Korea.
And the city of Jecheon, in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, is a hidden gem, not well known to foreign tourists, where you can take in the season's natural beauty to the fullest.
Our Lee Kyung-eun went there and files us this report.
"The city of Jecheon is known for the beautiful harmony between mountains and water, and the views here are even more spectacular in autumn, with the seasonal colors taking over the mountains."
Since it is just a couple of hours away from Seoul, it is the perfect place for a weekend getaway or a short vacation to make the most of this beautiful season.
And Bibongsan Mountain is a good spot to start the tour of the city.
At the top of the 5-hundred-meter-high mountain, visitors can look down at the breathtaking view of autumn colors reflected on the sparkling water of the city's iconic Cheongpung Lake.
And visitors don't have to hike up to see the view.
There's a newly built cable car that takes you straight to the observation point in just nine minutes.
To see those views from a different angle, visitors can take a ferry cruise across Cheongpung Lake.
The ferry takes them to a series of the city's landmarks, including Oksunbong Peak, which is one of the 10 Scenic Views of Jecheon.
With its huge stone wall in the middle of vast waters, it is the highlight of the ferry course.
The ferry also passes Gudanbong Peak - one of 8 Scenic Views of Danyang city,....as well as Oksun Bridge.
For those who can't come here, there are other places in the country that offer similar experiences.
Most parts of the country are approaching the peak of autumn foliage, meaning 80 percent of the trees on the mountains have changed color.
In the northern areas, Seoraksan, Bukhansan, and Chiaksan are already seeing vibrant colors, ...while southern regions and Jeju island will reach their peak soon.
