Global stocks falter on potential U.S., China trade deal delay

Global stocks faltered on Tuesday as strong earnings from U.S. drugmakers Merck and Pfizer and expectations the Federal Reserve will cut rates was offset by a potential delay in a U.S.-China trade deal, which clouded sentiment and weakened the dollar.
At closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell almost point-1 percent; the S&P 500 also lost just about that much and the Nasdaq Composite dropped six-tenths of a percent.
Seoul stocks snapped a three-day rally to end slightly lower Tuesday as investors remained cautious ahead of a U.S. rate decision despite hopes for eased global trade tension.
The benchmark KOSPI closed a tad bit lower at 20-93 while the tech-heavy ==losed point-9 percent higher.
Oil pared losses amid expectations that U.S. refined product stockpiles declined last week.
Brent crude closed flat to settle at 61 dollars and 57 cents a barrel while the U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude settled down point-6 percent at 55-50 a barrel.
