A terrifying video caught when a car struck an auto-rickshaw and was sent flying into a river in north India.

In Madhya Pradesh's Niwar area in Tikamgarh district, a family travelling in a Wagon R car on October 28 hit an auto-rickshaw on a bridge over the Satara river.

The car was sent into the water and fortunately was at an angle that kept it afloat, allowing the passengers to try and climb out.

There were five people in the car including a five-month-old child. As soon as the car fell into the river a man climbed out the window carrying the baby out to save her.

Standing on the car he threw his baby over the bridge so that the crowd of onlookers could catch it.

Unfortunately he missed and the baby fell into the river again, prompting a courageous bystander to jump in the river and rescue the child.

Soon others jumped in and with the help of ropes they rescued all of the trapped passengers one-by-one.

According to the eyewitness it took them around more than an hour to rescue all of them. All the victims were admitted to a nearby hospital, where after first aid all of them were later discharged.
