The UN's top official on North Korea's human rights situation says China's forced repatriation of North Korean refugees contradicts "the principle of non-refoulement,"... which forbids nations from returning asylum seekers to a country where they will face persecution.
Speaking at the UN Headquarters in New York on Wednesday,... Tomas (Oh-hay-ah Quin-tan-ah) Ojea Quintana urged Beijing to take discreet measures.
He added that he has obtained information that an increasing number of North Korean refugees have been detained in China over the past six months.
He also said food insecurity is reaching an alarming level in the North,... with nearly 40 percent of its population, or 11 million people,... undernourished.
