California Counties Face
More Blackouts This Week Power company Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
says up to 17 counties may be affected
starting on Wednesday. Some of these counties include Yuba, San Joaquin and Solano. The announcement comes as
windy and humid conditions
are returning to the areas. Southern California Edison is also considering shutting off
power for thousands of customers. Counties within Edison's
range includes Los Angeles
and San Bernardino. The deliberate shut-offs are meant to avoid wildfires, which have devastated California. Recent major blazes have
often been linked to
equipment malfunctions. Earlier this month, power cuts affected around two million people due to the weather. PG&E Chief Executive William D. Johnson says it could be awhile until the forced shut-offs end. Until PG&E's transmission lines
are protected from starting fires,
Johnson says they may last
up to 10 years.
