Extinction Rebellion protesters attempt to hand themselves in at Charing Cross police station
  • 5 years ago
Extinction Rebellion protesters this evening (October 18) attempted to hand themselves in at Charing Cross police station for commiting acts of civil disobedience.

On the second week of protest the Metropolitan Police Service banned Extinction Rebellion protests of more than two people, those breaking the rules are subject to arrest under Section 14 of the Public Order Act.

Since Monday Extinction Rebellion have flouted the ban and continued to protest in large numbers in central London, making this gathering potentially illegal.

The senior officer at the police station chose not to enforce section 14 on this occasion, instead pulling the shutters down and closing the station to the protesters.
