Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the Indian public sector banks had the "worst phase" under the combination of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. Sitharaman made this statement while addressing a lecture at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, adding that giving a lifeline to the PSB's was her primary duty now.

वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने कहा है कि भारतीय पब्लिक सेक्टर की बैंकों ने सबसे बुरा दौर पूर्व मनमोहन सरकार और पूर्व आरबीआई गवर्नर रघुराम राजन के दौर में देखा था. मंगलवार को कोलंबिया यूनिवर्सिटी के स्कूल ऑफ इंटरनेशनल एंड पब्लिक अफेयर्स में एक व्याख्यान में कहा कि ‘ मैं रघुराम राजन का एक महान विद्वान के रूप में सम्मान करती हूं। उन्हें उस समय केंद्रीय बैंक में लिया गया जब भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था तेजी के दौर में थी।’ उन्होंने आगे कहा कि राजन के दौर में ही बैंक लोन से जुड़ी काफी दिक्कतों का सामना कर रहे थे।
