Alan James is a highly respected award winning watercolor artist and teacher. His art graces the walls of many private and corporate collectors worldwide.

Alan James currently teaches watercolors at his studio in Deep River, Connecticut, at Jerry's Artarama and at the historic Lyme Art Association, the birth place of American impressionism.

His teaching style is comprehensive and many of his students have gone on to become successful artists in their own right.

Alan James' one-man shows have proved to be very successful and it has always been a source of pleasure that his work is acquired by fellow painters.

While mostly self-taught, Alan has attended workshops of: Alvaro Castagnet and has studied the great watercolor masters: Joseph Zbukvic, Herman Pekel, John Yarldley, Edward Seago and Edward Wesson extensively.

His style is impressionistic and traditionalist with emphasis on purity of design and clear, transparent colors.

The art of Alan James captures the very soul of his subjects with passion, boldness and elegance. His paintings are imbued with a mood, a mystery that engage and lure the viewer into the magic.

In 2018, Alan released his first instructional video called "Letting it Flow" including five demonstrations, with emphasis on  how to capture the essence of a scene,  designed with beginners and intermediate students in mind.

Alan James’s work is currently or has been represented at the following galleries: Nantucket Artworks,-Nantucket, MA, Trinity Collection - Nantucket, MA, Richard Stravitz Fine Art - Virginia Beach, VA. and Alan James Gallery in Deep River, CT.
