$637m in gold found stashedin Chinese mayor's home

HAIKOU, CHINA — Chinese officials have discovered an eyewatering stash of gold and cash valued in the billions, in the basement of an allegedly corrupt Chinese ex-mayor in Hainan province.
Former mayor of Haikou 58-year-old Zhang Qi was being investigated by the National Supervisory Commission when they found his basement treasure of supposed bribes.
The video evidence from the raid shows investigators sorting through the mass heap of gold bullion after they fell from the shelf.
The Sun reports that piles of cash singing to the value of $36.7 billion took the form in various currencies such as dollars, euros, and Chinese yuan. If true, this stash alone would make him the richest man in China.
The former mayor allegedly has a portfolio of perks, including multiple luxurious villas and will face the death penalty if he is found guilty of "economic crimes."
The exposed former mayor has since been stripped of his titles as Xi cracks down on "corruption."
