Dangerous levels of smog that left residents coughing up blood return to Bangkok

Dangerous levels of smog returned to Bangkok on Monday (September 30) after unseasonal stagnant weather and a lack of rain.
Thick haze blanketed the Thai capital sending air pollution levels soaring to 250 micrograms per cubic of PM2.5 particles. The safe level is 50.
The country's Pollution Control Department blamed a large high pressure cell which has stifled wind and rain which would normally clear the dust.
Officials advised young children, pregnant women, the elderly and sick people to stay indoors. People leaving their homes were told to wear face masks.
In February this year, the city suffered for more than a month after debilitating levels of air pollution left thousands of residents coughing up blood.
