A Veggie Proposal & A 92-Year-Old Volunteer

Our first story is about an unconventional veggie proposal. They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but this woman ended up with a few more carats than she ever expected. Danielle Squires discovered her engagement ring on an actual carrot, after her boyfriend John had placed her ring on the growing vegetables 3 months prior. When time came to harvest the carrots, John made sure Danielle picked the right one, so he could pop the question. And luckily for John — and the carrot— Danielle said yes!

In our main story this week, we’re going to The Hebrew Home in Riverdale, New York — a non-profit, non-sectarian nursing home that is over 100 years old. It’s here that one man is showing us that there’s no age limit when it comes to volunteering.

92-year-old volunteer Jerry Schneider is sometimes mistaken for a resident himself! Jerry has been a volunteer for 8 years - but his relationship with The Hebrew Home goes back even more than that - his late wife was a resident herself. Familiar with the staff and grounds - Jerry showed up for his first day on the job and has been a standout volunteer ever since. His actions are proof that it’s never too late to get involved.
