IGP: Suspect in Bayan Lepas killing influenced by violent videos, nothing to do with religion

Police are concerned with wild allegations by several individuals on social media on the recent shooting case in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador held a media conference at Bukit Aman today to warn irresponsible individuals spreading such posts that his officers in blue will take action against them.

Abdul Hamid said several quarters had spread posts saying that the parang-wielding perpetrator, who was shot dead by police after running amok and killing his supervisor, died as a martyr.

The posts claimed that the man had reacted so after the victim insulted Prophet Muhammad.

He said based on police investigation, they found that the suspect was heavily influenced by clips from the middle east purportedly showing the plight of Muslims in the region.
