S. Korean government to revise media affairs guidelines to limit leaks of investigation details
  • 5 years ago
South Korea's ruling party and government will revise guidelines for prosecutors to restrict leaks or the disclosure of details of investigations to the media.
At a meeting Wednesday,... the two sides said the move is aimed at reforming the prosecution and better protecting peoples' rights.
It means prosecutors will be strictly regulated,... while the details of probes will not be known until a trial begins.
But the two sides agreed the new measure will take effect after the investigation into the family of newly-appointed Justice Minister Cho Kuk....regarding allegations of dubious investments in a private equity fund and fabrication of his daughter's academic records is complete.
The issue has become a center of debate,... with some questioning whether the changes were solely for the new minister's benefit.
The two sides rejected such claims,... saying the move was drawn up under the previous justice minister.
