Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg receives Amnesty International's top honor of 2019

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg received Amnesty International's top honor of 2019 on Monday.
The organization had planned not to give an award this year, but changed its plan after seeing the teen activist's passion and efforts to raise awareness of the climate crisis.

Representing all the fearless youth fighting for the future, teen climate activist Greta Thunberg has been honored with Ambassador of Conscience Award for 2019.
The award is Amnesty International’s highest honour, celebrating people who have shown unique leadership and courage in standing up for human rights.
Speaking in Washington D.C., the 16-year-old activist dedicated the award to everyone who makes up the movement.
"This award is for all those millions of people, young people around the world who together make up the movement called Fridays for Future."
The Swedish teenager started the movement 'Fridays for Future' last year, skipping school on Fridays to protest outside the Swedish parliament.
She encouraged people to push from every possible angle to hold those responsible accountable and to make the people in power act on the issue of climate change.
Thunberg expressed hope that there is an awakening going on... and that things are slowly but definitely shifting.
"This is thanks to a lot of different reasons. But it is a lot because because, because of countless of activists and, especially, young activists. Activism works. So what I'm telling you to do now, is to act. Because no one is too small to make a difference."
The teen activist plans to take part in the global climate strikes on September 20th and 27th in New York with thousands of students.
She will also address the U.N. Climate Summit on the 23rd.
Last month, Thunberg crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a solar-powered boat, landing in New York City on August 28th.
