NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ recently announced the addition
of three new cast members to their popular late night show. .
Comedians Chloe Fineman,
Shane Gillis and Bowen Yang are
slated to become feature players
in the upcoming 45th season. .
Yang, who has been a writer for the sketch
show since September 2018, will be the
show’s first Chinese-American regular.
His hiring has been praised as an important step
forward, as there has only been a total of six Asian
or Asian-American hosts in the history of the show.
On the other hand, Gillis has been at the center
of controversy since the announcement of his hiring.
A 2018 clip currently circulating online features
Gillis making racist comments against the Asian
community as well as many other groups. .
He has since issued
an apology, saying he
is a “comedian who
pushes boundaries.” .
It is not yet known whether
the unearthed comments will
affect NBC’s hiring of Gillis.
