Pitru paksha is the ideal time designated by the Hindu Shastras to offer Tarpan (oblations) to the departed ancestors in a family. It is said that the ancestors residing in the Pitruloka (the world of the departed souls) are permitted to visit the earth (Bhulok) especially during the Pitru Paksha in a year to accept the oblations given by their descendants.

संसार में तीन ऋण प्रधान रूप से कहे गए हैं-देव-ऋण, गुरु-ऋण एवं पितृ-ऋण। इनमें पितृ-ऋण की प्रधानता बताई गई है। यद्यपि पित्र-ऋण से कोई भी उऋण नहीं हो सकता, तथापि पितरों के प्रति श्रद्धा-भाव रखना मनुष्य की उन्नति का कारण होता है। पितृ पक्ष में आप आसानी से श्राद्ध कर सकते हैं, इसकी विधि आपको बता रहे हैं।
