As difficult as it is to conceive of GREEN fossil fuels, it appears that Science allows us to extract energy from dirty sources with ZERO Emissions, and in some cases zero pollution altogether.
I've long said that TECHNOLOGY is the only way out of the problem of anthropogenic environmental impacts.
Electric cars are a problem, due to battery storage capacity. Hydrogen cars were a problem due to requiring the hydrogen gas. A 100% zero emission method of extracting hydrogen from even OLD oil fields, could change the automotive landscape - as the price for the gas plunges.
Large-scale powering of homes and businesses is a major problem in terms of pollution and emissions. Natural gas has been a very simple and most entropy-efficient method, with many stations, even, powered by methane out-gassing from old garbage landfills - rather than simply burning it off. With zero-emission methane / natural gas power stations, we could even turn our garbage into a carbon negative source of energy.
Perhaps we shouldn't count fossil fuels out yet, in the race to find the most efficient and lowest cost zero-emission energy source.
