High tide during Hurricane Dorian brings manatee to woman's yard

FLORIDA — A woman in Florida got an unusual visitor in her backyard during Hurricane Dorian.

The Miami Herald reports that while holed up in her Palm City home during Hurricane Dorian, Corrine Hogan heard splashing noises in her yard and was afraid a gator had come in with the very high tide.

Peeking out, she saw that she definitely had a visitor, and soon found out it wasn't a vicious gator, but an adorable manatee.

In a video posted to Facebook, the top of the sea cow can be seen as it moves slowly through the grass.

Turns out the big girl had taken advantage of rising waters to grab a meal, happily munching on the grass for half an hour before swimming back out toward the St. Lucie river.

It was a win-win situation for both the manatee and Hogan, who was pretty ecstatic that her grass got mowed.
