Chinese provinces take measures to counter anger over rising pork prices ahead of holiday season
  • 5 years ago
Local authorities in several Chinese provinces will offer discounts and special loans from August 2019 to counter public anger about rising pork prices. The compensation is being offered ahead of traditional Chinese holidays including the Mid-Autumn Festival September 13-15, 2019, and a week of celebrations around National Day on October 1. Pork prices have skyrocketed since an outbreak of African swine fever started to hit pig farms around China since August 2018.
