The Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary in Davao Oriental is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee made the declaration on Monday after deliberations in Doha, Qatar. Located in the towns of San Isidro and Governor Generoso, Mt. Hamiguitan is a protected area in the country and is known for its unique bonsai field or pygmy forest of 100-year-old trees. It is also one of the habitats of the endangered Philippine eagle and other animals such as the golden crown flying foxes and the Philippine tarsiers. There are now six World Heritage sites in the country. The other five are Tubbataha Reef, Puerto Princesa Underground River, Banaue Rice Terraces, Vigan City and the Baroque churches. -- ANC
