MANILA - The manager of Vhong Navarro is urging the TV host's camp to remain vigilant, noting that the timing of Deniece Cornejo's voluntary surrender is "suspicious." "Her timing is suspicious. I would advise Vhong and team to be very cautious for any drama," talent manager and director Chito Rono said In a statement. Navarro’s legal counsel, Atty. Alma Mallonga, meanwhile, said their camp will have to confirm “kung ano talaga ang ginawa niya (Cornejo), if it was really a surrender.” “Kahapon the whole day, we were just preparing. So ito naririnig lang namin. We will have the opportunity to confirm,” she said on “Umagang Kay Ganda” on Tuesday. On Monday afternoon, Cornejo surfaced at Camp Crame to face the serious illegal detention charge filed against her in connection with the mauling of Navarro. Serious illegal detention is a non-bailable offense but her lawyer said they will file a petition for bail in court because the evidence against Cornejo is weak. Two other co-defendants in the case, businessman Cedric Lee and Simeon "Zimmer" Raz, Jr. were earlier captured by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Cornejo spent the night at the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group's Anti-Transnational Crime Unit detention cell with a number of fellow female inmates. On Monday morning, she was brought to the Taguig Regional Trial Court TO determine where she would be detained.
