During a press conference in Odessa, Texas, on Sept. 1, 2019, Governor Greg Abbot responded to the state's latest mass shooting, calling for action to change the "unacceptable" status quo: "I am tired of the dying of the people in the state of Texas." The Odessa shooting on Saturday left seven dead and more than 25 wounded along a West Texas highway. Police identified the shooter as Seth Ator, 36.
